AHS Science Research Class Receives Grant
The Science Research class at Alliance High School was recently awarded a grant from the Fuel Up to Play 60 Program funded by the Midwest Dairy Council. This program is a competitive nationwide funding program, which encourages healthy eating and physical activity among young people. The class submitted a budget request that included funding for healthy breakfast items that could be distributed to all students during advisory for taste tests, pedometers to encourage physical activity, and a kickoff rally. In addition to the formal online grant application, the Science Research team rallied the support of other AHS students to supplement the application by signing up and taking the pledge to eat healthier and exercise more on the Fuel Up To Play 60 webpage. The application was also supported with an entry in the video Food Challenge promoting healthy breakfasts entitled "60 Seconds to Breakfast" and is shown below.
The Midwest Dairy Council awarded the group $3,250 to finance their plan. The Science Research team is in the process of finalizing their healthy eating and physical activity plans and will begin implementation in February.
